Maths in Initial Teacher Education

The Maths in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) group consists of colleagues from Higher Education Institutions who collaborate to support the teaching of Mathematics in Initial Teacher Education.

Objectives of the group are to:

Ensure we provide high quality experiences for our student teachers by sharing ideas, and good practice, and collaborating across institutions.
Support new Maths ITE colleagues.
Be an expert group that responds to calls for advice in the sphere of mathematics education, for SCDE, and where appropriate for other organisations.
Undertake joint research projects when appropriate.
Work in partnership with the National Response to Improving Mathematics (NRIM) Board and Education Scotland’s Numeracy and Mathematics Team, and any other relevant organisations.

The membership includes at least one representative from each Higher Education Institution (HEI) that has mathematics as part of its ITE programme: University of Aberdeen, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, University of Glasgow, Queen Margaret University, University of Stirling, University of Strathclyde, University of Highlands and Islands and University of the West of Scotland.
